We schlep all over the place searching for old Polaroids,

finding most of them at second hand stores.

Doug seriously swerves for Goodwill and Salavation Army~

I would put money on the fact that we have been to every single Goodwill from here to NYC~

...Pretty sure he is an addict!

Which is fine...

for one~ I was a Photography Major in College and still LOVE anything to do with "REAL" photos,

and two~ we sell a TON of them :)

Not only are Vintage Polaroids a HOT collectible right now~ but tons of people are still using them at weddings, special events, and for their own personal use.

Not only did we have a blast~

but we sold so much stuff...

we had to buy more while we were there to restock :)

Thank goodness for several thrift stores in the area!

All of the lamps were sold by Saturday!

I sold a lot of vintage shoes and 80s sweaters:)

This was my FAVORITE piece! It sold early on Friday night.

Brooklyn was a blast... as usual~ and luckily the 80% chance of rain held off the entire weekend :)

We had only planned on bringing a few things with us~ wait, let me rephrase... I was only planning on bringing a few things~ I wanted to have a relaxing weekend after the Country Living Fair and wanted to do some sightseeing while we were in town... Doug on the other hand wanted to spend his B-Day weekend working and making money :(

By the time Sunday rolled around~ we had sold almost everything!

YAY!

NYC~ Here We Come!

We have been driving since 6 a.m. this morning....

On our way to NYC...

Doug's mom was kind enough to lend us her boombox~ since the radio in Trucky went out last month :)

I've been holding it on my lap for 7 1/2 hours now...GRRRRRR

It's definitely better than sitting in silence for 15 hours~

but pretty much~ as soon as I get a station to come in....

it goes out again :(

Country Living Fair Projects

The Country Living Fair is quickly approaching~ eeeek!

So, I've tried to accomplish two projects a day to get ready for the big show :)

LOVE this super cute farm table!

Doug and I put the Hot House Market touch on this farm table we found about a month ago...

I sanded the multiple layers of dirt off first and then we made the feedsack fabric faux drawer out of an old frame and a vintage knob.

French Gray Chairs with Ticking Fabric

I've had these chairs for a while now~ I LOVE the "X" detail on the back!~ but they looked pretty lame when I found them.

I mixed my own French Gray paint using a light blue and tan paint I already had and then added a touch of black! YAY! Just the color I wanted and I didn't have to buy a new can of paint.

Bally the kitty

Bally was my faithful companion all day :)

I typically work in the front yard~ we have two large shade trees there and they keep me out of the sun.

HOWEVER, we live at the end of a T in our neighborhood that gets a good amount of traffic.

I'm considering putting up some signs tomorrow that read:

"Staring is not nice :)"

"I don't stare at you, please don't stare at me"

or maybe

"Keep your eyes on the road"

Just a thought at this point :)

$190 for a jean shirt??? THAT is one of your most coveted items this fall~ Miss Meers from Daily Candy?

I'm one of those who follows fashion blogs and "up to the minute, what's super stylish right now" blogs~ however, I am sooooo sick and tired of them showing me $300 dresses and $45 lotions~ stop showing me this crap~! and start showing me the stuff that looks like it cost $300 but really costs $30!

I'm a REAL person that doesn't cruise around in $400 outfits on a daily basis!!!!

the juice from 1/2 of a lemon

2 Tablespoons of sugar

add all ingredients to a large cocktail shaker full of ice and shake away...

run a slice of lemon along the edge of your martini glass and dip into a plate of sugar for a sugar rim

strain ice and pour vodka/ lemonade mixture into your martini glass

YUM!

WARNING: The following recipe includes the most AWESOME liqueur ever invented.

Several OMGs are likely to follow if consumed.

Orange Passion Martini

1 shot glass of Passoa Liqueur

2 shot glasses of Simply Orange Juice

splash of Pineapple Juice

add all ingredients to a large cocktail shaker full of ice and shake away...

strain ice and pour Passoa/ OJ mixture into your martini glass

(garnish with an orange peel if you feel like being fancy)

Make sure you shake A LOT!

A properly shaken summer martini will have a very thin layer of ice crystals floating on top.

WOW! It was a hot one this weekend at The Brooklyn Flea...

LOVE the vintage pink (original paint) metal drawers and metal cabinet!

Everything in this pic~ SOLD!

We always have such a great time in NYC. The other vendors are sooooo warm and welcoming. The atmosphere is exciting and fun, and the shoppers are super nice.

But, I'm not gonna lie~ the FOOD is my favorite part of The Brooklyn Flea :)

I can't leave the Flea without having a wood fired pizza from PIZZA MOTO

and there is always a long line at CALIXTO HUARACHES~ yum!

Thanks to PEOPLE'S POPS, we survived the heat~

I personally had 3 cups of their Blackberry Sour Cherry Shaved Ice on Saturday alone!

OMG~ Those guys were raking in the dough!!!

And speaking of dough... the doughnuts from DOUGH are TO DIE FOR!

Sunday... more shaved ice and a MILK TRUCK Grilled Cheese & Chocolate Chip Shake :)

The Hot House Market household has been sooooo busy~

sorry I have not kept up on all that has been going on :(

To top it off~ I somehow managed to drop a very light fan on the top of my foot in just the right spot~ my foot swelled up like a balloon~ even my toes are black and blue!

So~ despite all the work that still needs to be done~

I have been laying in bed with my foot elevated...

However, today is the day I will get back to work...

We will be packing the truck and putting the finishing touches on all of the FAB stuff we will be bringing to the Horton's of Tipton Third Annual French Flea Market and Artisan Fair.

The Shoup House has always been one of my favorite antique stores in the area.

Located in historic Battleground, Indiana, the Shoup House features a super cute selection of antiques, collectibles, furniture and primitives all beautifully displayed in this FABULOUS old house turned antique store.

Every year the Shoup House has a summer Tea Party with several artisans and vendors out on the front lawn.

We are so honored to be a vendor this year!

And, hope all of you can stop by and check out our fabulous finds we have rounded up for you :)

After the sale, stick around and spend the day in Battleground, IN, visit the Battle Ground Museum and Battlefield, (the place where the Battle of Tippecanoe took place,) take a look at Prophet's Town and Prophet's Rock, or take a leisurely stroll down the Heritage Trail.

Whew! What a weekend!

We had such a great time~ despite the fact that the weather did not cooperate on Saturday.

Actually, it poured down rain ALL DAY LONG~ it was total crap~ my spirit was broken, I wanted to cry, leave all of our stuff there and go home...

I DID NOT take any pictures of our space (on Saturday)~ all of our stuff was pushed up against the 2 small, ugly, blue tarps we hung up in the corner of one tent at an attempt to keep some of our stuff dry~ it DID NOT look cute :(

However, the New Yorkers showed up to shop!

And, it was great to see some familiar faces~ THANK YOU to our repeat customers~ we <3 and appreciate you :)

Sunday was a different story~ the weather was great~ YAAAAAAY!

We managed to pull our booth together in an hour and a half :)

The porters ROCK big time in Brooklyn~ super fast and professional~ we couldn't do it without them!

The super cool, stylish people show up in droves to go to the Flea! It is so fun to just people watch and chat with the hipsters. These two guys were sooooo nice~ they hung out in our booth for awhile and ended up buying a metal cabinet for their friend.

The Flea entertainment...

Our neighbors LITTLE GARDENS were such a nice couple.

The first thing they said to us was, "WOW, you brought a lot of stuff!"

Haha~ they should have seen how much stuff we had the day before!

Their little brick gardens were SUPER COOL and they said the plants hardly need any water! Uh, yeah~ THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!

Road Trip~ The Brooklyn Flea

We are on our way... once again to The Brooklyn Flea, our new FAV show.

Thank God Doug and I get along really well...

four straight days of "togetherness" (with only bathroom breaks apart from each other) can get pretty annoying :)

Let me give you some insight into our glamorous life on the road...

Trucky (our new ride) came with the standard issue Ford radio and only one working speaker... so we aren't exactly riding in style.

Doug likes driving to country music (and Britney~ shhhhh don't tell him I told you) however, if I'm scanning for stations and Ke$ha comes on~ the scanning stops and the bad 1990s "in da club" car dancing begins. Oh yeah :)-

Our snacks consist of chocolate chip Fiber Plus bars, generic cereal bars, Chex Mix, and bottled water. However, when it comes time to actually eat... the usual "what do you want to eat?" "I don't know?... what do you want to eat?" "I don't really care.., you decide" "No you pick.." blah, blah, blah... happens and we drive for another 30 minutes until we are sooo hungry that we end up stopping at some crappy place that neither of us really likes.

We always shop all the way to NYC.

Having Money Doesn't Mean You Have STYLE :)

Most of you don't know me~ and even some of my friends don't REALLY know my past...

For now,

let's just say I have had to make a lot of tough choices throughout the years.

Right after I turned 21~

I had to make a very important life altering decision on my own,

spent a lot of time alone reflecting on that decision,

and learned what is TRULY important in life as a result.

I have never been impressed by money, have never wanted a fancy car, never wanted expensive clothes...

I spent my childhood dreaming about having a farm with tons of animals~ never dreaming about being a princess.

Don't get me wrong...
I like to look nice & I LOVE to shop for cute clothes.
However,
I have NO problem going to Starbucks in the same sweats I slept in the night before
& I always check out the clearance racks first :)

So, when I came across an ad that said "50% OFF Designer Labels" while updating our Facebook page yesterday~ I thought~ WOO HOO!

WOW!
I like to think that I have a good idea of what is out there in Fashion Land...
(even though I don't buy the stuff~ I try to keep up with the latest styles)
But OMG~
I really had NO IDEA that $2000 & $3000 jeans existed???

SERIOUSLY?
That's more than our Box Truck cost~ LOL!

OK~ Let me get to the point...

I vividly remember being a dinner guest at this amazing restaurant, Tribeca, on the ground level of the Transamerica Building in San Francisco.

It was one of those hip restaurants~ where... you either had to have reservations months in advance or you had to BE somebody to get in.

I had never been to a place like that~ and didn't know WHAT to expect???
As I stood there in my super cute Walmart babydoll dress (doubling as a maternity outfit)~ I didn't feel out of place... I didn't feel self conscious... I felt amazed... at what BAD style most of the patrons displayed!
WHAT????
I could tell the clothes they were wearing cost A LOT of money...
(you don't see that in Indiana~ I had only seen that in magazines.)
I expected everyone to be Fabulous, perfectly accessorized and put together.
But man, that was not the case.

Yeah~ we all have had some bad "What was I thinking???" fashion disasters~ but spending tons of money on your clothes does not guarantee that won't happen :)

And~ we ALL know that if you look like the model above in the Balmain jeans, you can wear anything you want and still look great.

Being stylish is about being confident and displaying your personality... not about how much money you spend.

Personally, I am not impressed by those who drape themselves in expensive clothes and jewelry, drive fancy cars and flaunt their money...

I admire those who are grounded and appreciate what they have.

(so why, why, why do I watch the Real Housewives???? uggghhhh~ those ladies piss me off!)

So PLEASE if you have enough money to buy a $3000 pair of jeans, take a moment to consider what $3000 could do for someone in need....
I am sure you will look just as great in a pair of $150 jeans :)

Ok~ Here we go... BIG SHOCKER~ I just returned from Las Vegas~ AGAIN...

(4th blog about Vegas within a year? sigh... I LOVE VEGAS!

So, sharing the Vegas love with you.)

However, this time, it was NOT MY IDEA...

I traveled to Las Vegas to celebrate my BFF's birthday!

Her dear husband surprised her with an all girl's getaway~ AWESOME!

In my last Vegas post, I mentioned the newest addition to the strip~ The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas...

I was dying to see what all the hype was about.

So, of course, it was our first stop.

OMG!

The 3-story bar inside a chandelier, appropriately called The Chandelier DOES EXIST and it is A-MAZING!

(Everyone NEEDS to check out this FABULOUS "architectural wonder" filled with sophisticated vintage inspired decor.)

After having a cocktail at The Chandelier,

we headed over to All Saints, located on the second floor shopping area of The Cosmopolitan.

UNREAL...

is really the only word to describe this place.

1100, YES 1100, vintage sewing machines line the windows of this TO DIE FOR vintage inspired, edgy clothing boutique for men, women, and children.

Those are really the only words to describe how much Doug and I LOVED Brooklyn... the people were AWESOME, the neighborhoods were AWESOME, the atmosphere was AWESOME, the food was

TO DIE FOR~ and the Flea was AWESOME!

Since Doug and I were total New York City rookies, we didn't know what to expect.. everything we knew about NYC, we learned in the movies :) However, it was WAY better than we expected. The Saturday market in Fort Greene totally could have been right down the street from the Huxtables...

and the view from Sunday's market in Williamsburg, well, it speaks for itself...

We were so busy unloading, setting up, and selling on Saturday that I only got a chance to snap a single pic of our space toward the end of the day...

A lot of girls stopped by our booth on Saturday to shop and tell us they saw us on the Refinery 29 website as one of Brooklyn Flea's Top 10 New Booths ~ AWESOME! Thank you Refinery 29!

If I worked this hard everyday~ well, I'd be TIRED! I have been working NONSTOP since 10am (and it is now 12:30 at night...whew!) After hearing how many people showed up to the Brooklyn Flea last weekend (25,000) I've kicked it into high gear and have been rounding up all the good stuff I can find~

Yesterday was a good day...

As I was driving home from an AMAZING buying trip to Rossville, IN (awesome final touches for the Tailgate Show!)~ I saw a number of people attempting to shovel their driveways and sidewalks.

I laughed as I drove by a guy with a hay fork, another with a sledge hammer and another with what looked to be a garden weasel :)

My laugh quickly subsided when I thought about how we were going to pull a 15 foot trailer into OUR ice and snow covered driveway???

It's all fun and games when I'm driving a four wheel drive SUV, casually pulling up to my garage, while the neighbors are shoveling away in 5 degree weather. However, backing up a trailer and loading it on our skating rink of a driveway is another story.

UGHHHH~ choosing to NOT shovel after this past batch of snow and ice was a BAD IDEA.

Since Doug and I do not own any of the aforementioned ice and snow removal devices... we got out our shovels and got to work....

I had a brilliant idea to hose down the driveway.... however, when Doug went to pick up the hose that he left out in the snow all winter... it cracked in half~ GREAT! So onto plan B~ buckets of hot water... another really brilliant idea of mine.... that is NOT effective AT ALL.

I'm sure we looked like total morons~ and were a source of entertainment for our very smart neighbors who actually shoveled their driveways properly...

20 minutes after trying various methods of breaking up the ice with garden shovels, a very nice guy in a big manly truck with a plow on the front passed by...

He looked at us as he drove by, then backed up, rolled down his window and asked us if he could help.

Woo HOOOOO!

Apparently this guy had driven by our house a couple of days ago and laughed at Doug as he whipped the 4Runner into 4WD and bounced over the mounds of snow :)

After several expert maneuvers, our driveway was clear!

AWESOME!

Thanks guy in the big manly truck!

The garage is soooo full we can't park our car in it...and the office is busting at the seams...
